ND Profile

Andrea Whelan, ND

Dr. Andrea Whelan, ND received her Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Calgary prior to completing her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine.

Dr. Whelan values the genuine connection she has with each of her patients. She also values the opportunity to dive deeply into her patients’ health to uncover the causes of dysfunction as well as any obstacles that are getting in the way of attaining their goals. With her nurturing and motivating approach, she walks alongside her patients each step of the way, providing a non-judgemental space where her patients feel heard, empowered and safe to open up and ask questions.

Dr. Whelan believes that health is a state of resilience that allows one to adapt to the many different stressors of our time and still live a life they love. To help her patients achieve this, she uses clues from her patients unique story and labs, and applies her intuition, critical thinking, and evidence-based knowledge to guide treatment plans. She has various tools and strategies to help offer her patients relief in the short term, combining these with long-term therapies aimed at restoring and sustaining health. Her main area of focus is the digestive system, particularly the microbiome, and how this interplays with mental and cognitive health, metabolism, energy, and hormones. She also believes that how we think, how we feel, and how we regulate ourselves can have a huge impact on our health and wellbeing, and so believes in addressing mental and emotional health as well.
