How to Assess Mitochondrial Function

How to Assess Mitochondrial Function

Event Details

Speaker: Dr. Joseph Pizzorno, ND

Date: Wednesday, May 21

Time: 7:00 pm EDT

Mitochondrial function is core to health and wellness and loss of function is associated with unexplained fatigue, most chronic diseases and the aging process. Also of great importance is the distortion of mitochondrial metabolism induced by cancer cells for their survival, growth and metastasis. Recognizing, improving and monitoring mitochondrial health requires objective assessment of function. Unfortunately, at this time, direct measurements are only available in research settings. Fortunately, indirect measures are available that can be used to assess mitochondrial ATP production, determine how well the various aspects of mitochondrial metabolism are working, measure markers of dysfunction, identify the causes of mitochondrial dysfunction, and provide guidance on interventions to address causes and restore optimal function.

  1. Assess mitochondrial ATP production

  2. Recognize urinary markers of mitochondrial damage

  3. Understand how to integrate diverse laboratory measures to identify addressable causes of mitochondrial dysfunction.
